Creative Hand Made Open Frame Earring Displays
This is the fourth and last post in my series of four different ways to display your hand made earrings for shows and fairs.
This one is similar in thought to the last one (post number three) but is larger and more open...making it ideal to be viewed from multiple sides.
For this display I bought two large wood framed cork boards at a discount store. I popped out the center so that I was left with the frames. I painted them black and attached small hinges along one side.
I screwed small eye hooks at regular intervals along the sides and attached picture wire from hook to hook on each frame...making sure to keep the wires as tight as possible.
Really that's it...open it like a book and load it up with your creations!
I have also used this idea with frames in varying heights and in a group of three...a big one in the center and two smaller ones on each side. Just be sure when you attach the hinges that the frames open like a "Z".
* Note:
This display can be too light for outdoor shows...even when there appears to be no wind...believe me, I learned the hard way that it only takes one gust to have flying earrings!
Hanging Earring Card Tip:
I use business cards to display and package most of my earrings.
Sometimes I fold them in half like a tent…that way the can stand up on a table or hang over one of my displays.
Another option is to apply sticky back plastic hangers/earring card adapters to the cards…that way they hang neatly on the wire rails. The earring card adapters can be found at jewelry packaging supply shops and by searching online.

Flashback Friday - Infant and Child Loss Memorial Jewelry
From my Archives: This was a very special part of my business
A loving Memory
It is my honor and privilege to provide a special keepsake designed to help parents heal whose live are touched by the devastating loss of a child through early pregnancy loss , stillbirth or in the first few months of life.
These are three examples of how my fine silver fingerprint charms have been used to help heal grief and honor a lost loved one.
They represent a precious life that has meaning and purpose but that ended too soon.
This work is sacred to me and a very personal outlet for my artwork.

Custom Leg sleeve representing me Tattoo Design
Client’s Description Request:
I am looking for a leg sleeve (knee to foot) covering my
calf and shin representing me and the important things in my life. I have ideas
for a number of things but need a way of bringing them all together. I am
looking for black & white tattoo with shading, with maybe 1 colour to
highlight certain areas.
Idea is to draw a black pear tree up the calf (the symbol of
Worcester - I have an example image but I want it drawn realistically instead
of how it looks on the example image), a jigsaw piece with Newtons 3 laws of
motion in formulae inside, an Avro Lancaster bomber, an England rugby rose
symbol, playing cards with ace eight of spades and great a'tuin from discworld.
I appreciate these are all very random objects that will be
difficult to bring together, but I hope someone has the ability to do so. All
of my reference pictures will be added so you have example images to work to.
Tuesday Tips - Creative Jewelry Packaging
I like to put a little thought into how I package my handmade jewelry.
From my Archives:
I think it makes it fun for your customer to have a little treat or gift to open.
These tin boxes are perfect for small items...like a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a small necklace wound in a coil. The window makes it possible for your customers to see the item - which is great for storage and display. The tin is simple and won't distract from your creation.
I purchased a large container of these at my Art and Crafts store in the wedding crafts section and was even able to use a 40% off coupon. I think there were 24 tins in the container.
Wad up a little colored tissue or clear cellophane to set your items in or cut out a card that fits your box so that you can mount your pieces on...and you are all set.

Custom Tree of Life Energy Tattoo Design
Client’s Description Request:
Capture my belief in nature & the energy of the universe
with my love for my family through images that signify this for me.
Description:
I want the tat on my upper arm. I can do with some colour or without
colour. No text.
I want a tree with other imagery. Concepts of growth, life, nature and strength
in the tree (root, trunk, branches, leafs/ or not?)
Pisces sign with tuna fish in the trunk of the tree. I want
the tree to have roots. Grounded, more than what you might see at first
glance. I am in the air about any
imagery or text in the roots of the tree.
The cycles & energy of the moon. Or the moon and sun the cycle of each day.
My daughter was born under the sign of Pisces; my older
brother passed away recently, one of my favorite memories is a fishing trip we
took (hence the pisces sign with tuna fish).
Tuna capture the "gift" of the oceans as trees the gift of the
soil...life and energy that has existed through generations.
I want the line to feel soft and serene.
Flashback Friday - Taking the Right Promotion Photos
A Happy Accident...
These two pictures (one vertical, one horizontal) are from that "session" and I have used them many times.
Feeling the pressure of a printing deadline, I was having a hard time taking a photo of myself to use on my "jewelry making" marketing materials.
I knew I wanted something personal...something artsy...and something that said something about me.
All I can say is thank goodness for digital cameras. I can't imagine how much money I would have wasted in bad film trying to get the right shot.
After struggling most of the day and night I finally gave up. Nothing felt right. It was all too planned and stiff looking.
I went to bed well after midnight and as I was laying there I had a sudden urge to jump out of bed...in my PJ's and run up to my studio.
I didn't really have a plan but just started putting on lots of my handmade jewelry...no rhyme or reason...necklaces and bracelets.
I set my camera up...moved my pajama straps out of view and started snapping...in black and white.
It was fun. I started to think about how lucky I am to be doing something I love for work and how grateful I am to have the freedom to create...even in the middle of the night in my PJ's!
These two pictures (one vertical, one horizontal) are from that "session" and I have used them many times.
They might not be perfect technically but they felt like "me" and the best part is that I took them.
When I decided to just let go...it was effortless.
Custom Moto Guzzi California 1400 Tattoo Design
Client’s Description Request:
Simple but unique motorbike design for skilled designers. I
need a black (grey shades also OK) motorbike to be inked in parallel to the
inside of my left arm (between elbow and armpit). This should more of an
abstract design of the bike like the tattoos I attached (indicating motion if
possible) but with details that suggest the Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom. Such
details could be (a) be the 90-degree V engine that is perpendicular to the
length of the bike (b) the unusual headlight shape and (c) the funnel-like
exhaust piping. Front of bike should be facing towards the elbow and back
towards the armpit.
Nature and Imagination
It is the marriage of the soul with Nature
that makes the intellect fruitful,
and gives birth to imagination.

Custom Breast Cancer Skull Tattoo Design

Flashback Friday - Hand Made Semi-Precious Stone Bangle Bracelet
Custom Psalm 51:10 Inner Forearm Tattoo Design
I really liked the simplicity of this design and the way it
would sit on the forearm. The wording was laid over the bible in the final art.
Description:
I am looking to get the NIV version of Psalm 51:10 Tattooed
on my Right Inner Forearm. The size is approx 6" long by 3" tall.
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm
51:10". In my mind I picture the words in the foreground with an Open
bible in the background. I don't know if this will work for a tattoo but that
is my idea. I am thinking of staying Black and Grey.
Client feedback:
Thank you for the great designs. This is exactly the kind of
design that I was looking for.
Custom Star, Vine and Pentacle Tramp Stamp Tattoo Design
Client’s Description Request:
A unique yet simple tramp stamp that shows off my three
favourite things in the world.
Looking for a tramp stamp in only black (though
greys/shading welcomed). I would like the Pentacle to be the centerpoint of the
tattoo, though it does not necessarily have to be in the middle. From it, I
would like there to be a design of tangled vines. I have this idea in my head
that apart from the leaves, that the blooms of these vines would be stars instead.
Though the stars do not have to be isolated to the vines themselves. Nothing
too busy, just something that would be feminine and represent my beliefs. I
don't want it to be symmetrical...I prefer the image to flow from either one
side or the other. Thanks!

Custom Simple Black and White Tattoo Design
Clients Description Request:
Black, no colors, "simple" black lines,
minimalist. I have a tattoo from before which is very simple. It is of two
theater masks. No color is desired, just simple black lines, minimalist! I
agree that tattoos should hang together in a way, but may well be air between
them. Would like it is playful expression but it should not be cluttered. The
tattoo will go from the wrist up to the elbow. The underside of the arm and on
the upper side, the tattoo I have now is on the underside of the wrist. The
pictures show a bit what I want to have in the tattoo. But it’s important that
it does not become too cluttered. Can wait to see what you come up with!
Tuesday Tips - Creative Jewelry Displays for Earrings Series - Double Wood Tray Idea
From my Archives:
A portable, easy set up, hand made jewelry show display for earrings…wood trays.
Ok, this is the third post in my series of four about finding creative ways to display earrings.
This one takes a little work...but only a very little!
I went to a national unfinished wood super store and purchased two small unfinished wood trays. The top rim of the trays were straight and not arched...that was important. At the same shop I purchased 3 small hinges which came with screws.
When I got home I placed the trays on top of each other inside to inside...and laid the hinges along one of the long sides. I marked where the holes were and drilled a tiny pilot hole. Then I screwed the hinges onto the trays one at a time.
This made it possible for the two trays to stand up and be sturdy when opened like a book.
Inside I attached thin wood strips from the craft store (model building section) with small pieces of wood behind them so that they were raised from the back. You could also use some wire strung side to side with small eye hooks.
...and Voila!
Your earrings hang on the rails and the whole display can be loaded before your show at home. Transport your items to the show with the trays closed together for protection and then opened like a book at your show. These trays had cut-out handles on the short sides which made carrying easy.
These could also be decoupaged or painted to match your jewelry style!
